What was the most frightening experience of your life? Any near death scares?

When my dad told me that the Tower of Terror at Disney World was a virtual reality ride when I was about 8.

I think the most I've ever been scared was when I was about 22 and we moved into a new place. There was a mirror on the wall just outside the bedroom.
I got up in the middle of the night to pee. I was very groggy. I walked into the hallway and there was someone in front of me. I swung out as hard as I could to knock the fucker out. My swing missed, my heart pounded.
I had swung at my dimly lit reflection in the mirror. Luckily, I missed.

That was scarier than the axe murderer.

EDIT
Friggin spel check.

My car (Ford Falcon EA S-pack) fell off the stands while I was under it. The car was just high enough off the ground that it squished down on my chest but didn't crush me. Very, very scary moment.

Getting blown over the side of a 120ft grain elevator while installing an antenna. I was tied off to the railing with the safety harness, and that thing definitely paid for itself. I was kind of leaning over the edge of the railing anyways to reach a bolt that needed to be tightened, and a gust of wind caused me to go over.

I was able to climb back over the side and get back on the platform, but I just sat there for about 15 minutes just shaking after that one.

Picture I took about 15 minutes before it happened.

It is not nearly as high as some of the other places we put antennas, but dangling over the side of that one was scary enough for me. Concrete poisoning is nearly always fatal.

Grabbed a lil too much throttle on my dirtbike and smashed into a tree. My head bounced off so hard the helmet shot off my head (and ripped up my chin where the strap came off). It was brief but i truly felt for half a second that i was fucked.

Holy guacamole! This is the very reason why I don't like working on my car. That and I'm not too car savvy :)
Glad you made it out though

By any car. I have had cars fall off stands, one even fell off ramps (learned you had to put something under them when working on gravel). None has came close to squishing me, but it always gets my heart thumping.

Parasailing on a local lake, I was about 300' in the air when a storm front blew in much faster than expected. Winds gusted to 40 mph whipping me around and putting enough strain on the cable to destroy the hydraulics in the winch.

I flopped around up there for probably the longest 20-30 seconds of my life... I was picturing the chute either giving way or getting twisted up, and the inevitable plummet that was going to follow. I knew that my odds of survival would be slim to none.

In the end, they cut the cable and I ended up floating down to the water. I was still traveling fast enough that the chute stayed open and dragged me 1/4 mile or so before they boat raced up and sombody jumped out onto the chute.

When I was 18 I got into some probation trouble for a DUI. I was put into Orange County's Main Men's Jail.

I was a white kid with a shaved head, and was put into a 20 man holding cell with about 9 hardcore mexicans waiting for the prison train to take them upstate. I seriously thought the deputys did it as a huge joke on me.

After about 20 min of silence, they asked me if I was a skinhead, I said no, and they were cool with me. I can't say the same about the guy that the deputys threw in the cell next who was in there for "harassing a child under 14", but thats all I'll say about that story.

Cliffs:

-18 yr old white kid shaved head thrown into cell with a Mexican gang
- Not fun

Yeah, when I used to push files for Corrections, I visited CSP Folsom a couple times to access overflow med records. I made the mistake of staring at a HUGE mexican guy because I had never seen anyone with their entire face and neck tattooed. I've never seen the pure predatory look in any other person's eyes that that dude gave me. Thank god it was just a window that we saw each other through. Scary shit. PSA - Don't go to prison. Not exactly the scariest moment of my life, but certainly a memorable experience.

Yeah I was pretty damn lucky to be honest. I was working on the diff and was just sliding out from under the car. My legs were beneath the rear axle and my chest under the fuel tank. If my chest had been under the diff when it dropped I'd be farked. Also I'm pretty glad I decided to remove the rear cover from the axle before pulling the wheels off because if it fell with the wheels off it would have come right down onto the axle.

Is it dangerous to go into the water with a parachute? Seems like it could stop you from surfacing. I've never done anything like this so I'm a bit clueless.
