Please? Thanks, just curious. I'm just finishing Chapter Six now, so no spoilers please.

I had a tough time in that prison where you have to set the guns up. Took me many tries to survive it.

Since I am on SANDTRAPS (level after Ant loins) I would have to say RavenHolm. But so far the game has been pretty easy because they give you so much more energy than in HL1. Also in HL1 a grenade from a grunt plus a burst of fire meant you were dead. In HL2 you can take a grenade, some shots and a few monster hits before you die.

I really didn't find much of it hard. Towards the end in the last few chapters, they start to get a bit tighter giving out health and ammo. Until then, there's pretty much health stations or packs everywhere you go.

The 3 or 4 levels before the last one are probably the tougher ones. Lots more fighting which can kill you more than the puzzle solving early on.

City fight. Longest one in terms of groan material was with the car. I ended up doing much of that level on foot ;)

Overall the game, on normal, is too easy I think. The final fight, if you can really call it that, was way too easy I think!

I would probably say the toughest part of the game was knowing it was over :(

....but then I just start up again! :D

what car? I only drove the boat and the dune buggy. Where was a car in the city?

Agreed.
I replayed the game on hard and had to reset that spot on medium to get past it.
Of coure that was before I read about someone's strategy posted here about piling some boxes up to limit the firection from which you can be attacked.

Right now I'm just before the prison gun set-up level, but so far the toughest part was my own fault. I somehow got myself facing off two Combine gunships at the same time (the part where you could hide in the toppled garbage bin, just before entering Nova Prospekt). I could've reloaded, but managed to tough it out anyway.

(edit) Well, that prison gun setup part was not too bad. Later, when you had to protect Alyx while she exposed the generator core, that was a helluva battle. The entire team dropped like flies, and near the end when she got surrounded by white Stormtrooper Combines I freaked out but luckily managed to blow them away. I barely scraped through that one, but the double gunship battle above is still the hardest so far.

Yeah I'd say I had the most trouble with the prison gun set-up level. I had to look at a guide and ended up using the trick of blocking one of the entrances and then I got it right away. However, like said, I thought the game was pretty easy on Normal. I have been meaning to start a new game on Hard for a while now...

edit: 2nd hardest IMO would be either when you start encountering those floor turrets (that need a grenade to destroy) in the city or just in the harsh parts of Ravenholm with those bastard poison jumpers.

Yes, this is the only part that took me awhile to get by.

i didn't hav any problem with this one . . . . strange . . . . but i DID find the level battling the mammoth mechanical spiders in The City rather challenging (and it took a few Quicksaves).

This one:

The City

i'll be . . . i accidently clicked on HL2 and Steam is updating again.

Will they ever fix that damn S- s- st -stutter? :p

Same here.
I died there a few times, stopped playing for a few days, then tried again and found out how you were actually supposed to do, and it was quite a bit easier all of a sudden ;)

The gun setup for me too...

that is the first time I had to use a walkthrough. Yeah, i broke down. There was another time later in the game where I used the walkthrough as well, but I can't remember what part... hmmm... damn i have the stupids today...

Oh the other time was when you are in the upper level of the bombed out building and the big spider thing is walking by. It wasn't hard per se, I just didn't know where to go next.

Played on medium my 1st time through. What an amazing frickin game.

Yea, one of the good things about hl2, is it doesn't have a lot of those tedious puzzles where you have to figure out what you're supposed to do or where to go (hl1 had quite a bit of that).

When you go back to the first city and you have two big spiders at the same time.

I didn't think it was clear where the ammo was, so I found it harder than it actually was though.

an Update on the UPdate from Steam

(it DID something about the Stutter):
Latest update: January 10, 2005

Full Change History:[-] January 10, 2005 (current release)
Changes/Additions

? Weapon script files are preloaded at startup, instead of when they are accessed. This will reduce some hitches while playing Half-Life 2.
? Improved the performance of writing out save games. This will reduce the pause when you pass over an autosave trigger in Half-Life 2, or when you press the quicksave button.
? Improved the performance of writing out the thumbnail image for save games. This will also reduce the pause when passing over an autosave trigger or pressing the quicksave button.
? Increased cache memory usage for machines that have greater than 512MB of physical memory. This will reduce hitching due to cache thrashing.
? Optimized the sound cache manager, which will reduce hitching as a result of sound cache thrashing.
? Minor optimization to the world renderer and world collision.
? Minor optimization to the way that asynchronous sound files are loaded.
? Optimization to the way that sounds were loaded that are trigged by acting sequences.
? Optimization to reduced the number of times model sequences are iterated on per frame.
