I'm 24. 3 years ago I was hospitalized when my body decided to become allergic to itself for 4 days. That was not fun.

oh, and my back has been killing me since yesterday morning. I woke up and it hurt like a bitch! sometimes it hurts so bad when i stand up that I can barely walk and i feel like i'm going to fall down. its in my lower back and it happens every so often. usually lasts for about 2-3 days then goes away.

pleurisy about 9 years ago. Not sure if it's actually dangerous to the health but the pain was a 10 out of 10. Horrible.

Gal bladder infection/removal.

Really nothing like it used to be.
My mom had hers removed and they made a long cut, leaving a scar.

Mine was done with the new method and can't even see where they made the incision.

about 2 years ago, I got a really bad infection in my left leg... was in the hospital for a week on IV antibiotics and then spent another week on IV antibiotics with a home nurse at my parents' house (and another three months after that with weekly doctor visits and pills).

when I was first hospitalized, the pain was so bad that I couldn't even walk, and the discoloration of my leg never really went away... to this day, I won't wear shorts unless I'm just hanging out by myself around the house.

My husband (known as Dulanic here on AT) was diagnosed with MS in 2003. He's on the new Tisabri (spelling?) injections as his current treatment. Seems to be working really well for him, as his last MRI showed significant reductions in the size and number of lesions on his brain.

In keeping with the topic....I myself had food poisoning from some bad salmon last Friday. I also was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea last year. Been on my CPAP since diagnosis and I sleep much better these days.

major illness? i think this pales in comparison to some mentioned here, i had the flu a couple of winters ago. it was a hit-the-couch-and-don't-get-up kinda flu which i never remember getting it that bad before.

I dunno that the flu could not be considered a major illness.
It can get really bad for some people.
I remember someone dying from it.

I think anything you can die from is pretty major.

the worst i've EVER had was bronchitis

wifey currently has...

polymyositis, fibromyalgia, arthritis, and is slightly anemic

there's probably a few more, but those cover 98% of her pain.

to put this in a real world perspective: she went on a trip sponsored by the "make a wish" foundation
