Was just watching watching Airport which came out in 1970. In one of the scenes I noticed the color temp was way off and I realized its because they were shooting in a section of the terminal that had all fluorescent lights and it occurred to me they might have been fairly new at the time, and the cameramen didn't know what kind of film to use and perhaps the right color temp could not be accounted for at that time. Most of the plane interiors and some of the airport interiors were shot in Hollywood on studios where obviously the lighting is controlled, so its a sharp contrast.
I have actually noticed this problem in some other 70's films like THX-1138. I guess it took time for the industry to figure it out.

Commercially available in '34, so I'd assume within 10 years of that. Ironically you're more looking for the start of color tv, not florescent itself.

You recognized the colour effect as fluorescent lighting. Most others would expect that, too. MAYBE the film makers were sophisticated enought to WANT the lighting to appear REAL for an airport.

No sir, the entire film had a strong color theme throughout its 2 hours and 15 minutes. Including all the interior scenes which were mostly studio shot EXCEPT that one second of about 10 seconds where a lady walks down a real terminal.

Or the reel of film they used for that scene was left in a hot van before or after the shoot, which altered the colors.

But maybe your first task should have been to Google "when were florescent lights in use".

Nor do I think that your question should have been posted in "Ask a Technical Professional"

You think wrong.
"when were fluorescent lights first in use" is an extremely different question from when where they first seen on film.
As a guy who seems to think he knows what does and does not belong in the technical professional forum, thats not terribly precise of you.
