FX-60 unless there is something higher on the Opty side.

Of course, it'd be cheaper just to buy into a new socket...

You're kidding, where are you going to find one?

Newegg only offers two 939's, both single core. You'd have to do eBay to find anything useful. Get an E5200, a decent S775 ATX MB, and 2GB DDR2 for $200 and it'll blow the doors off the BEST S939, and use half the power doing it.

The fastest was the FX-60 I believe. But they go for about as much as a new motherboard, 4GB of DDR2, and a new processor that is faster on Ebay. Your other option is an Opteron 185, but they are too pricey to justify buying as well. In my opinion, pretty much the only processor worth buying for a socket 939 system is a 3800+ or similar, or an Opteron 165 and overclocking them. My Opteron 165 ran at 2.7GHz after overclocking.

Grab an Opteron 170, 175 or 180 if you can find a deal on one. I have two opterons running -- a 144 and a 180. Both are great chips. But I wouldn't spend more than $100 for any 939 chip.

I would move on. Sell all your 939 stuff including the ddr. Fry's had the e8450 tri core amd with board for only $109.99 just a few days ago. I sold all my old 939 stuff for $110 including shipping. 2 boards and 2 cpus. Ran them for about 2 years.
