In my opinion it is Drive, amazing film, some people have said that it was style over substance but I disagree, to my mind it was, in ever way, a modern western and I loved it, perfect.

A close second was Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. I nearly put it top, amazing film, well written, directed, acted but for me Drive was a fraction better.

What do you think was the best film of 2011?

I haven't seen either of those but I think Jack and Jill is the best of the ones I've seen. Quality film. Quality!

I used to stay on top of this when I was in college but now I play catch up at the end of the year when everyone releases their top 10, 20, etc. lists. The first one I checked off the list was Attack the Block. Fun movie. 13 Assassins is next. Drive is released on DVD in a couple of weeks so I'll get to see it then. I really want to watch Hugo and wish I had paid more attention to it when it was still in the theaters up to a few weeks ago.

Good call, you'll like Drive, Tinker Tailor is definitely worth a watch too it's awesome.

Loved Attack The Block, need to watch 13 Assassins, haven't gotten round to it yet.

This list might help you all make your selections.

I second Drive as a favorite.

I would add Source Code, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball, A Dangerous Method, and Shame.

OK I'll have a look, Source Code was fine, a bit meh. I've not seen Midnight in Paris, or A Dangerous method... I'll look into it.

Shame was a 2012 release over here, it's just come to my cinema.

Drive was good, but not sure it was my favorite last year...Hanna was good, but also not my favorite..too hard to pick a favorite!

I need to watch Hanna, I've bought it and haven't gotten round to it yet, have you seen Tinker Tailor?

Haven't seen tinker yet, but it's on my list.

I also enjoyed the mechanic, entertaining.... The Adjustment Bureau as well.

You also have thor, captain america, harry potter, hall pass, bridesmaids, hangover 2, kung fu panda 2, x-men first class, transformers, the help, conan the barbarian, colombiana, moneyball, contagion, warrior, holmes 2, etc...good movies, but just not in the 'favorite' category.

I was also glad they shot the inbetweeners movie, thought it was great.

Most unexpected good movie for me was cowboys and aliens...surprisingly well done.

I might say that it's a tie between hanna, mechanic, and girl with the dragon tattoo.

Mechanic was really fun, The ones in bold I also liked. That being said Hall Pass and Conan were appalling.(Except for Stephen merchant in Hall Pass :D)

Girl With the dragon tattoo is good, only just come out here though.

Inbetweeners Movie I'd put up there definitely.

The only movie that I saw in theater last year was The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I rather liked it.

I have a life, here in ATOT.

I feel like while there were some enjoyable movies in 2011, nothing really stands out as amazing plus I didn't see a lot of movies that came out this year.

For me I saw and liked (not sorted by any rank):
Drive
Harry Potter
X-Men: First Class
Thor
Captain America
Limitless
Source Code
Super 8
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Cowboys & Aliens

I also saw but thought they were just OK to terrible (not sorted by rank):
The Green Hornet
Take Me Home Tonight
Paul
Fast Five
Bridesmaids
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
Friends with Benefits
The Smurfs
Cars 2
Immortals

Most were seen at home with only a small few seen in the theaters. Between the cost to get a baby sitter and the cost to see a movie for my wife and I these days it's usually not worth it to go. We tend to just wait till we can watch them at home.

Drive was fucking terrible. probably the most overhyped piece of shit i saw in 2011 actually. the acting was just terrible in that movie. it pretty much only had 1 cool part in it (scene with the shotgun). i'd have to see a list of all the movies in 2011 to be able to remember everything i saw in 2011 to pick one out.

EDIT:

from that list posted above it would be one of the ones below:

X-Men First Class
Rise of the Planet of the Apes
In Time
Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Recon

This list might help you all make your selections.

From that list, the 2011 movies I saw are:
The Guard
Captain America
Bridesmaids
Thor
Source Code
Limitless
Kill The Irishman
The Adjusment Bureau

Guess I can't make a top ten list. :(

I really liked:
The Guard. Made me laugh. Enjoyed how it poked fun at bullshit.
Source Code. Just worked for me. Dunno why.
Kill The Irishman. Pretty badass.

I was entertained:
Thor: Fun cheesey action.
The Adjustment Bureau. Pretty decent weirdness and romance.
Limitless. Cool concepts, ran with 'em, but some flaws.

Thought these movies sucked:
Captain America. For some reason all the action was boring.
Bridesmaids. Main character was a horrible person. Wished she would die in a fire. No idea why any other character liked her. There were a few scenes that made me laugh, at least, just not nearly enough of them to offset the annoying rest of the movie.
