not reception, just quality of phone. i'm probably going to have to say either

a) panasonic allure (four of my friends bought it after i did because they loved mine so much)
or
b) nokia 6310i (a slimmed-down version of the legendary nokia 6100, monochromatic with bluetooth, & the battery lasted about a week with heavy talk time. 2 years after i bought mine, i sold it on ebay for over $100 with only the charger as an accessory).

now every freaking phone has to have a video camera and lasts about 30 minutes. :(

My old brick phone, tough as nails, and super reception, but ungodly heavy and barely mobile.

Nokia 8390. Small, excellent battery life and easy to use. Mine has 400+ hours on the life timer and still going strong. Nokia 3390 a close 2nd place, as that thing just wouldn't die no matter how many times I dropped it.

its pretty good. except it plays a sound everytime you take a pic even with silent mode. tons of lint and dust gets trapped in the front display (happens to my friends with the same phone)

Nokia 5190..
the battery life was great, the clarity was amazing, and the phone STILL works good (gave it to my uncle)
that was 1 awesome phone.. drawback? size..

other than that... I miss it.

Motorola i95 - Nextel.

Dropped it from 2 stories and escaped with just a minor scratch.

My current blackberry 7100g is pretty tight. The text recog is superb, reception is good and it's incredibly useful... I think I'm becoming addicted to checking my email every three minutes though, and I'm not sure that's a good thing.

My previous phone, Nokia 5160. I have it for 5 years and never let me down. I am using the Motorola V220 now and I wish it has reception and loudness as my old phone.

going on 2 years now, i don't see a point in upgrading since this works fine ... maybe if it gets broken or something, i'll move on up

Nokia 6230 and 6230i. The features on these are so numerous many phones today do not even compare to it. SE K750i is also nice. As for upcoming phones, check out the Nokia N Series (not N-gage) and the 6280/6270.

More info on phonescoop and gsmarena.
