Ahhhh, life in the country.
3 dogs... getting lots of exercise.

1 dog - very smart, very well trained...
the other 2 dogs:
1 smart, disobedient, 1 dumb.

The two took off from me while walking last night.. returned to the house about an hour after dark, with plenty of porcupine quills in them. (wife insisted taking them to the vet, despite that I knew how to take them out)

I don't know which got hit first, but wtf was the 2nd dog thinking? "I'll protect you?" or "that looks like fun?" If I were a dog, I'd have been thinking "whoa, that looks like it hurts. I'm staying away."

Hopefully, they learned their lesson.

cut a little bit off (because it's hollow - allegedly reduces the pressure)
Then, grasp them with needle-nosed pliers and give it a really quick yank.

I removed about 50 of them - about half, then the wife insisted we go to the vet because the vet had called back.

Dogs are pack animals. They work as a team. They probably all followed the same bad plan through to conclusion.

Why do you rule out simultaneous quilling?

Watch many movie fights?

True. These are the same creatures that will sniff each other's crotches without a second thought.

Of course the vet said to bring them in. He doesn't charge for phone calls... Remove, clean, keep disinfected, hope the dogs learn.

There's a logical reason/purpose for that.

maybe he thought the porcupine had used all his bullets or then again maybe he was sniffing a crotch and wasn't paying attention?

unlike a few people here, I don't think "whoa, they're in pain. omg, what should I do... I know, I'll go get my camera and take pics"

Of course, since a typical thread would be "omg, cut my hand off with a chain saw. What shoulc I do? Pics." maybe I'm wrong.

C'mon, you gotta teach them a lesson. That way you could have showed the picture to all their doggy friends and then they could have mocked them.
