We didn't have any trick or treaters. We live in a new subdivision away from other subdivisions. So I'm guessing there isn't many kids around here. I bought all of this candy too. :(

I don't think I had anyone ringing the bell. I live a block a way from one of the major avenues in my area so all the parents took their kids from store to store. Walking home 5:30ish, it was very crouded with people of all ages.

We bought one of those big 100+ bags of chocolate bars for the kids this year (just moved to a new subdivision of about 40 houses), and had a group of 4 kids come by at 6:30. So I figured better conserve the candy to last the rest of the night...and gave them only a few pieces each. Didn't get a single kid again after that and now I'm stuck with a bucket of chocolate.

Topic Title: What was Halloween like in your neighborhood?
Topic Summary: It seems like the holiday has been getting less popular every year for the last 15 years

Not really any trick-or-treating where I live....but there aren't a lot of family households around either. Mostly students, older couples or young kidless professionals.

Halloween was huge for me as a kid, and it's still my favorite holiday next to Xmas. But it has been less and less popular. I think it's because of all the soccer moms and dads being so lame about it. Stop changing the damn holiday and let the trick-or-treating on the 31st! Escort your kids when they're doing it. I don't care if you have to work early in the morning. You're taking everything that's fun and special away from the holiday.

I'll tell you what you can do with that candy. Put a little basket right by the door to your house (on the inside), and somewhere easily reached while standing. Keep it filled with candy, and you'll be surprised how fast it can go when You're sneaking 1 or 2 pieces of candy everytime you leave the house.

Not one at my door last night. Last year we had a few. We had lots of candy last year and my kids I dont let each much so we had the left overs I was hoping to get rid of some this year. But nope not one. Wife didnt want to let the kids go out on our block this year for some reason so she hit up her aunts house. I hope my neighbors didnt get pissed becuase they bought some just for my boys and they never showed up to collect. I just thought of that now and I guess I owe some appogies maybe. Just my kids and maybe 3 or 4 other on my street because everyone else is on the older side with no kids. Damn I feel like a chode now. It was raining so I hope I can use that as an excuse :)
But I really do feel bad now thinking that :(

There were 10 kids at my door this year ... a 300% increase from last year :) However, I do live at the top of a hill, alebeit a small hill, and the little buggers and their parents can't be bothered to walk up.

Speaking of parents, it was below freezing in my neck of the woods last night, and I was disgusted to see literally dozens of vehicles moving slowly beside their children. Have people forgotten how to walk nowadays :|

Same way as the OP described when I was kid. Almost everyone on the street went all-out and it was a blast, however, all of us kids were approximately the same age, and we all kinda phased out of it (a few of us went hardcore until 10th grade). Although a few new families have moved in, its nothing like what it used to be :(

Yea, like I said earlier, I stopped in the 9th grade. At that time, I cut straight to business. I just dressed up in all black, nothing more. I went around with a pillow case and said trick or treat with no shame.

I was like that guy at work who is retiring and it's his last day. He knows it's his last day and he just doesnt give a sh*t.

Less popular with younger kids, more popular with older kids and adults.

Still have another Halloween party to attend this weekend.

There's a TON of kids in my neighborhood; if I'm driving down the road when school lets out, it's like an autocross course.

Yet, my doorbell only rang four times. And one of them was the Pizza Hut guy with my dinner. And I gave him candy, too. I asked the last kid that showed up (sometime around 8pm) where everyone was. He shrugged, said he hadn't seen many people out on the streets. He also joked that the night had not been very productive for him. So I dumped $30 worth of candy into his bag and turned off the porch light for good.
