What was all the hype about for "No country for old men"?

Just rented the DVD of "No country for old men" tonight. For all the positive buzz this movie got, all I can say is I must have gotten another movie. The plot reminded me a bit of "Red Rock West," but Nick Cage and Dennis Hopper did a far better job acting in what seemed to be very similar roles.

Javier Bardem did an awesome job in that film. Other than that, the movie was not as good as the book. Do yourself a favor and give it a read before you pass judgement.

I feel the same way. Pretty much bored the whole way through. It was ok but if I would of known it was like that I would of never watched it. Not a keeper or even worth watching more than once.

This will teach you all to not rely on ratings. I knew once I saw the ratings it would be nothing special there is just a way to know. Though I gave it the benefit of the doubt because I wanted to at least give it a try. I watched the whole thing and just did not like it. Not surprised it wasn't good. I expected that.

I saw this movie the other day and it was without doubt the worst movie I've seen all year.

The movie is aimed to stick out among the average movies one sees. Whether it sticks out in a good way or in a bad way is up to the viewer to decide. It is not a typical action/thriller movie and to watch it with those expectations does not do it justice. There is no hero, nor a hero's death. Evil does not kill out of hate or malice. It is not defeated; it merely limps away. I would only recommend people see it if they are in the movie critic frame of mind. It's the same way with Children of Men. I personally loved the movie, but I always say "don't expect a Hollywood type ending" when I recommend it.

I loved No Country for Old Men, however I did not like Children of Men. The ending didn't bother me, just I felt absolutely nothing during the whole movie. It wasn't boring, just it didn't bring out any emotion.

glenn1, what in particular didn't you like about the movie? Was it the ambiguous ending?

Yeah... this movie is definitely overrated, although not as overrated as "There Will Be Blood".

Note to Hollywood critics... we know you're bored with the predictable patterns that most movies follow (I guess that I would be if I had to watch 5 movies a week as well), but please stop giving glowing reviews to movies just because they try something different. The movie still needs to be GOOD to deserve a good review, not just different!
