Hi,

talking about overclocking a prescott here... from 2800mhz to 3400mhz

what voltage should i set for this increment, default vcore is 1.40v
and do i need to change the voltage for memory as well?

Thanks

i see this increment is what most people have for a prescott.

Hi Faye. In all honesty, only you can find out because each cpu will clock differently from another.

I have clocked several northwoods and prescotts and I always go up to stable frequencies on default. Once unstable, then that is the only time I put more vcore. Lastly is the vddr based on the rating of your memory.

From experience and reading stuff, you should be able to hit 3.36+ on default 1.4v. Some few instances, I read 3.5+ and then add more vcore after 3.6Ghz.

memory timing question:...
does cas 2 require more voltage?
currently 2-3-3-5@2.55

once i hit 3.4G, i will need to put it to cas 2.5, should i up the voltage too?

1) No. cas timings don't necessarily require more voltage.
2) No, you can get away by upping vcore. upping vddr is last resort.

Play around with the memory by setting spd on auto and vddr on default.
Overclock fsb until unstable with games.
Underclock by 10mhz from unstable fsb.
Start raising vcore while overclocking.
Starting raising vdrr as last resort.

i see changine my cas timing can help alot in games. 2.5>2.0

so under what circumstance i should up my vddr? and how much?

You can pretty much safely up your memory voltage up to 2.8v without hurting it.

but what do i gain when i up the voltage to 2.8v? i don't want heat.

if your ram is unstable at cas2 then move voltage to it might help stabilize it.

it mights? ok

the temperature from 1.375v to 1.40v is huge.
talking only for 2.8G.
