What Video Card to Get?

I have a AMD 64 3200 witrh 1 gig of ram and a GeForce Ti4200. I plan on getting the new Medal of Honor game and the upcoming Men of Valor Vietnam game and I want a video card that will be able to run both those games flawlessly. But I don't want to spend 400 bucks on a new card either. From reading these boards that Radeon 9800 pro seems to be a popular choice. Is there anything slightly better than that card which doesn't cost a ton more cash?

The upcomming 6600GT seems to be a good choice, but they're launch date are yet to be published for the AGP parts.

You can find a GeForce 6800 for about $270ish on NewEgg, IIRC. But, the MSI 9800Pro would probably be your best choice, since it is an XT core.

I just remembered, MOH:pA doesn't come out until November. So ask us around that time. No point in upgrading now when prices will fall by November.

Right now, for about $200, the 9800pro is the ticket. The 6600GT will be a little faster but will be more expensive when it debuts ~ $230 -- is what I read.

The 6600GT will be MSRP of $199. Unless you order it from Newegg, then it will be $350 ;)

I could not in good conscience recommend a 9800 PRO when the 6600GT is so close to release.

If you are in a rush the best two choices would be a $200 or so MSI 9800 Pro (with an R360 "XT" core) or the vanilla 6800 for about $270. the 6800 is a drastic improvement and worth the cash if you can spare it. Both of those are currently available and in AGP.

The only other option I'd suggest would be to hold off until Nov when the game is released to purchase an AGP 6600GT which should retail around $200 which will be a bit faster than a 9800 XT and can do shaders like crazy, AT has some reviews on the new 6600GT just recently available for you to look into. IIRC the 6600 will first only be available in PCIX until a little later on the AGP versions are released which should happen around the same time the game is released.

Thanks for all your help. I think I'll take your advice and wait it out a little longer. I was checking out that 6600GT and it does seem pretty good. I guess it would be a waste to get a new video card now if I'm not even going to be using it for a few more months. Well, I will be getting The Sims 2 when that comes out, but I'm sure my video card can handle that game fine with my AMD 64 3200 and my gig of ram.

Thanks.

I'll ask this question again in about a month and a half....lol
