What Video Card to Get for MOH: Pacific Assault?

I asked this question about two months ago, and the general concensus was to wait until the game comes out before I buy anything. Well, Medal of Honor Pacific Assault is coming out next week and I need to upgrade my old GeForce 4200 video card. I need something that can run this game smoothly, but at the same time I don't want to spend a fortune for a video card. I'm thinking about spending 200 bucks or maybe a little more if I have to. I've been reading these boards and checking pricewatch, but I really don't know what to get.

Any suggestions?

Whatever is suggested to me here, is what I'm going to go with.

Thanks.

If I was you, I would get the 6800LE...the one selling on newegg, and now Zipzoomfly, and than i would flash the bios to the 6800 ultra...and i would have a 6800 ultra for $325.00!!

.....ugh...hangon, i did, and i do! :)

nope, 256mb GDDR 3 .

Either the EVGA 6800 LE or a 9800pro. Those are the 2 best cards for the money right now.

i do beleive there is a version like that, but the one i am speaking of is a underclocked ultra...a simple bios flash, and you have an ultra...read all about it here

There was a 6800 LowEnd with 128 of RAM.. it was pretty much a standard lowend card, but I don't think they made too many and it is hard to find them for sale really. The eVGA version of the LE is actually Limited Edition, and it is truly an Ultra with a bad BIOS.. just flash and go!

gotta get it from ZZF for 349 now.. they went up 20 bucks in 2 days, demand is high now that the secret is out, and supply is limited (duh limited edition).

don't hold your breath. These are "limited editions" probably a batch of few hundred that didn't pass evga qc. They are so temporary that they don't even come in their own boxes. They use ultra or GT boxes with a "Limited Edition" sticker on it.

Checking pricewatch.com, there are several different 9800's that all look similar. There's also a 9800 XT, whatever that may be. Can somebody help me narrow down which 9800 I should get?

Thanks.

9800xt is just a little buffed up 9800pro. Any 9800pro these days can pretty much be flashed to a 9800xt since they both use the same r360 core these days. As far as manufacturers, go with ATI or Saphire and if you can get a 256mb card, although 128mb will do nicely as well.

I would personally hold off until the AGP 6600GT comes out it November. It should be priced around $200.00

Any 6800 nu will run circles around a 9800 pro or xt, no matter how overclocked it is. I have owned both. And MOH is an opengl game with a dx9 wrapper, correct? So NV hardware is the way to if you are really excited about that one game. And, MOH has had some problems with ATI hardware in the past. Call of duty never really did run on my 9500 pro, and that is the same engine from what I have heard. Good luck, and the extra $60 to go for the 6800 IS worth it. If all else fails, fall back on a $100 9600 Pro ;-)

I checked out those Geforce 6800's on pricewatch and maybe I'll just spend a little more money for one of those. There's one listed for 270 bucks. Would it be worth while to spend a little extra on that instead of getting a Radeon 9800? I know I originally said I was looking at only spending 200 bucks, but if need be I can spend a little more.

6800 NU, in other words a 6800 Non-Ultra, or if your looking on like Newegg or Pricewatch the option will be "6800."

Your 4200 should run MOHAA: PA fine.....at lower setting my guess.

Just buy your gfx card when MOHAA:pA comes out. AGP versions of 6600 GT and X700 XT should be out by then. Both @ $200.

Does anyone have any info as to when an AGP version of the 6600 GT will be coming out? If its going to be in the very near future, I can just hold out, otherwise I'll have to make due with what is out already.

Which brings me to my 2nd question. I'm looking at the 9800 Pro 256 meg cards and I see that the 128 meg GeForce 6800 cards about the same price. Which one is better? I'm so confused......... So many cards that all seem so similiar and close in price....
