What video card should i get?

p4 1.7, rdram pc800
Win2k sp3.

should I get the 4600 thats on sale now at best buy or wait for the FX? Would my comp even take full advantage of it? Dont bother with the readons, its a personal prefrence.

Or you could wait till the FX for the 4600 to drop in price. If not, I'd grab the 4600.

If you don't like them there radeons, then I would get a Cheap, but name brand, ti4200 with 128mb and that will hold you over till doom3 comes out. By then ATi's New chip will come out and push the price of the GFX down to a reasonable price.

I would imagine that the GF FX will have slightly more hunger for CPU cycles than the Radeon 9700 and the Radeon 9700 doesn't shine on anything below 2GHz so I would get a GF4 Ti4200 or Ti4400 and bust a simple overclock for Ti4600-like speeds. That would be a fair balance for your system.

the radeon 9500 is your best bang for the buck at the moment. It costs around $180 and will beat a geforce4 4600 at higher settings.
