9800 Non-Pro, its $300 on newegg.com and is around the same speeds as a 9700 Pro.

Good summary by Schadenfroh.

If your budget reaches $200 you might want to consider a 9700np like shady mentioned. It?s a really good performance jump over the $165 range cards.

Give us a price range, and we'll tell you the best choices. A ~$200 9700 (non-Pro, Sapphire OEM @ Mwave or Powercolor retail @ GameVE) is the best deal for a mid-to-high-end card. Far faster than a $150-180 5600/U or 9600/P, but only a bit more expensive. You'll need a quality 300W power supply, though.

The title of the thread says it all...

I too am in the market for a new vid card so thought I'd just hitch a ride on this thread. I currently have a Abit AT7-MAX2 with an Athlon 2400, 512 meg of ram and a 32 meg GeForce2 GTS card. I have about $200 - $250 to get a newer video card and would like to have the groups opinions. I can go nVidia or ATI...as long as it is stable, has excellent 2d and 3d image quality...as well as some speed for my game time! ;-)

I am a gamer (UT, UT2K3, Unreak II, Quake, Quake Arena, DN4Ever (if it EVER ships) ;-) etc., etc., etc...and some actual work (Adobe Illustrator, Quark Express, Office, etc.)

I have done a bit of research myself and it appears that a non-pro 9700 (or a pro if the price was right) would be the way to go...but I want to pick the groups mind as well before I leap.

Thanks in advance for your input,

Kip
