What video card is it ....

I've ordered a top-notch new system and I'm trying to add a few parts to my old system so as to pass it on to be the new "family PC" for the wife and kids. It's kinda funny actually, because I keep obsessively replacing things (because it's fun) so it's practically going to be a whole new PC .

Anyway, point is, they're using an old Compaq P3 950 mHz with onboard video, and they never complain about it. I'm putting together an A64 3000+ (Venice) machine for them and I'm looking for a decent video card. Nothing too great is needed, obviously, but I'm looking for a good price point that will allow for some game-playing if desired. I was reading the Anandtech July Entry Level Buyer's Guide, which makes reference to an ASUS card ...

We searched diligently to find a 32MB 64-bit card with 700MHz RAM, but we can't seem to find such a model anywhere. As a particularly bad example, Newegg lists an ASUS board as having a 128-bit interface with 700 MHz RAM, while ASUS says it is a standard model - 64-bit, 64MB 550MHz. (We're going to trust ASUS on this one.)

and then says in an update:

ASUS has updated their specifications on their web site, listing the RAM as being 700 MHz now. Apparently Newegg had it right the first time. For the extra $20, it's a reasonable upgrade to performance, but it's only really useful if you plan on moderate gaming. Hopefully this is the correct spec and will remain static now

The links are broken, and I've been trying to figure out what card is being referred to.

Anyone know?

Okay, thanks. But that link doesn't work, and there doesn't seem to be any card for sale at Newegg matching that description (i.e. an Asus 6200TC with 700 mhz RAM). In fact, I can't seem to find those specs at Asus's site, either.

I was really more curious than anything.

The X700 Pro is exactly the card I've been looking at. What exactly is the difference between DDR and DDR3, anyway?

Monarch has the Connect3D X700 Pro 256-MB version for I believe $150 with a $50 mail-in rebate (and free shipping).

The difference between the DDR and DDR3 is the speed and the bandwidth that the memory modules can offer. DDR3 is the cutting edge and you should look at that over any standard DDR.
