What video card do I need for Windows MCE?

I put it on a 400SC and got a message when starting the Media Center that my video card or driver wasn't supported. OKay, well it came with a PCI video card, so I figured I get an AGP card and picked up a 32MB TNT2 card and installed the NVidia MCE drivers. I still get the message.

What card do I need in this machine? I have a hardware TV decoder card, so I figured I'd just need a basic video card since I won't be gaming on this machine. I can't find any info on video card requirements.

I was under the impression that you needed to have those certian cards, or else they won't install properly.

For 2005, you need a fully DirectX 9.0 capable (READ: NOT JUST COMPATIBLE) card. For NVIDIA, this starts with the FX5200 series. For ATI, it should be at least a 9800 series (9600's should also work). That said, I have it running fine on a 9600 Pro, but results have varied greatly with cards not on the list that KeyserSoze linked above. My advice: Stick with a card from that list.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I picked up an FX5500 today from CompUSA for $50 AR and the error is gone. Now I'm getting a "Tuner Not Installed" error, but I'm posting in TGB to find a solution.

Ok man, I don't think you did ANY homework on Windows MCE. This setup requires VERY specific hardware. I'm sure your tuner is not on the MCE supported list. And if it ain't on it, it ain't gonna work properly (if at all). THAT is why you are getting "tuner not installed."

Dang, I thought the dozens/hundreds of people successfully using it and the fact that my card is bundled with HP MCE machines meant it would work. Golly, thanks for helping point me in the right direction, you're obviously done MUCH more homework.

I'm sure, since you've done such extensive research on MCE, that you know this problem is most commonly caused by a codec issue or wrong DVD decoder.

"This is an initial list of compatible products. The list will grow as products get submitted into the logo program."

My English is a bit rusty, but from what I can tell, this is an initial list that will grow. If you, in your homework, found a complete and final list, please post it. Kthx.
