It is a nvidia w/ vga. s-video, and dvi port (hey that may be standard but im coming from a radeon 9000) im guessing its an FX something. Anyways is there a way i can plug in the serial number or part number anwhere and figure out what it is? thanks for the help.

Plug it in, download the latest Nvidia drivers, and it will tell you what it is in the properties

GeForce4 Ti 4200, not sure if it's a 64MB\128MB\AGP 8x version though

EDIT: Get that thing off the damn carpet! Are you TRYING to kill it?

Just thinking about the Ti4200 brings back fond memories. :)

For bang of the buck, I think that card will go down as a legend. Probably the wisest video card purchase I have ever made.

Thanks. Obviously this is an older card but i did have a radeon 9000 before. So I was wondering will this beable to play sthe likes of BF2 on low to low-medium settings? with more ram of course. Or in general can it run most of todays games on low settings or is it pretty much worthless now?

Unfortunately no, it will not play BF2. BF2 requires pixel shader 1.4,(which your 9000 has) while the GF4 has only Pixel shader 1.1.

It's got a faster fill rate, but generally matches your card in most other respects, per the link below. It does not have shader 1.4 or Dx9, per the data in the database at gpureview {but neither does sthe 9000 include those features -- you have to get up to the Radeon 9600's level for that (and 9550, which is some kind of down- rated 9600)}. I imagine the 4200 would perform enough faster than the 9000 to be able to tell the difference, but only on the old Dx8.1 stuff. And as noted, neither one does Dx9.

A Ti4200 is faster than a 9000 by a pretty noticable margin. However, the 9000 does include Pixel Shader 1.4 which will allow you to play Battlefield 2, the Gf4 has PS1.1 and will not play BF2.

Your video card would have to be a vivo(video in/video out) for you to hook up an Xbox to it. On my X850 pro, to tell if it is a vivo, there is a weird little yellow connector on thr back of it. I do not know if gf4s have this. Someone else who had a gf4 may be able to tell you if your gf4 is a vivo.
