I am getting a new puter and was wondering what should I do. Should I go SLI and get two 6800's or should I get one ATI x850 or something? I know that SLI should be better but there is no real support for it.
Wait for the G70 to be announced next Monday, and if possible for the R520 the third week of July. Even if you can't afford the top end, you will likely see some drop in price on the current top end in a couple months.
Wait for G70 to be released in 8 days. If the availability is not an issue, you could pick a 7800GT for $399 perhaps (cheaper than SLI or same price as x850). Or, current cards will drop in price and you'll be able to get them cheaper perhaps. Either way 1 week's wait isnt much to ask.
Well if you want the SLi option, I would only consider it if I had enough money to buy G70 upon release. Buying 6800GT and doing sli with it later is pointless at this point in time. The savings from a non-sli board ($20+) put you even closer towards a faster G70 card.
From what I have read, most games do not support sli. Is this true? If I am only going to go with 1 card for now (not sli) should I go with the new nvidia (with possibily option to go sli later) or just get the newest ati?
