Hello,

I am setting up a home theater from my computer and I need to know what version of PowerDVD 8 I need.

System:
Processor: Conroe Core 2 Duo E6700
Graphx: Nvidia BFG Tech 8800 GTXOC
Ram: 4 gigs
OS: Windows Vista Premium 64bit
Optical: LG Blu-ray/DH DVD rom

Will the cheap version of PowerDVD 8 work and play HD video and Blue Ray, or do I need to purchase the more expensive version, PowerDVD 8 Ultra ($100), to play blu-ray and HD?

Also, I have an older version of PureVideo Codec; I dont know how to update it. I don't know if that is needed or not.

Thank you,
Brendt

The bad news is that without a hack (which might be disabled by Cyberlink at any time) Power-DVD no longer offers support for playback of HD-DVD in any version newer then 7.3 Ultra with patch 7.3730d.

I purchased one of the $18 refurbished HD-DVD drives awhile back & am currently using ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre player software which offers full official BD & HD-DVD support & had a free 15 day trial so you can check it out before laying out $80.

If you prefer to stick with Power DVD you may be able to find a copy of v7.3 Ultra on E-Bay or you can always go ahead with v8 & follow the instructions here to re-enable HD-DVD playback.

Also true & a lot of people like it ... unfortunately its pricey too & the trial version doesn't play either HD format.
