What version of Ghost works wtih XP-Pro?

I know for a fact that Ghost 8.0 also works with XP Pro(sp2) as that's what I've used this past week at work with a slew of notebooks, both for creating images and restoring.

The Ghost that comes with Sytemworks 2003 works fine with XP Professional. At least it does for me. I've done both cloned drives and file-level backups, using Network, IDE, USB, and Firewire data transfers. There ARE various issues with USB that have to be worked around, sometimes.

Just an FYI - Even if Ghost will not install on a particular OS you can (depending on the version - I know Ghost 2003 does but Ghost9 does not) boot with the CD, change to the \Support directory, and run the DOS (ghost.exe) version of Ghost. It will work regardless of OS, file system, partitioning, etc. I've never used Ghost from within Windows. Call me paranoid or over-cautious but I don't trust it to copy those files that are in use.

Using Ghost from SystemWorks 2003, I always booted from a floppy with my 98SE, FAT32.

How can I use it with my XP-Pro SP-2 NTFS?

Note: I have McAfee AV & McAfee Internet Security & ZoneAlarm Pro installed

Thanks

Once the image is successfully made and verfied, make a PC-DOS boot disk (the option is in Ghost 2003) and then store it in some safe place until you need it. Do try booting with it atleast once to ensure that it really is working.

I think I installed SystemWorks 2003 on XP and created a PC-DOS boot disk a long time ago and something was awrey with the PC-DOS interface or I couldn't see the NTFS partitions, I forget which.

Does PC-DOS recognize NTFS partitions?

Ghost wasn't on a separate disc. It was on the SystemWorks CD and, I think, had to be installed sepperately after Systemworks was installed. I'll have to dig it out and give it a try again if you guys say it will work.

Must I boot from CD? I'm thinking the PC-DOS boot disk wont see NTFS partitions.

I have Norton Ghost on System Works 2003 professional... I've had no problems backing up and restoring WinXP Pro SP2 from an image.

I simply boot from a Win98/ME boot disk, then use a Norton Ghost floppy disk (with the Ghost.exe on it) to start the recovery tool (you can also put this ghost.exe on your image if you want when making images). This works regardless of how the drive is formatted.

Multi-boot configuration? Not sure, haven't tried it.

Ghost8/2003 Systemworks will be fine with NTFS. I usually use either the PC-Dos boot disks that are created by Ghost or the USB Pen drive that I created for myself(using Win98SE), and they both are able to create images where the OS is using NTFS.
