What version of directx do you have?

I'm having to download and install 8.1a for a game, Empire Earth freezes on the splash screen.

I'm on 7 now and believe this will fix the problem.

This is like the first time I've had to install directx for any game. How about you?

8.0A. I haven't moved to 8.1 because I've read some bad stories about it. 8.0A serves me fine.

In case you don't know what that means, it means I use Linux.
