what vehicles make good used cars?

Well, I had a fun weekend - totaled my Blazer on Saturday. (I'll post a few pics when I get home). Dinky littel two-seater car came out of my blindspot as I was trying to get across the road and nailed me. The truck might be repairable, but I need something to drive in the mean time. So what vehicles make good used cars? I don't need another truck; at this point just about anything will do, as long as it's a)cheap, b)reliable and c) an automatic. Yes, I know getting a stick would be less expensive, but I've tried driving a stick several times, and it ain't a pretty sight 😛 .

And just in case anybody is wondering what happened: I was driving down a 4-lane highway, devided by a wide grass median. I wanted to make a left turn out of the eastbound lanes, across the westbound lanes, and into a subdivision street. Pulled into the little concrete cross-piece between the two inside lanes, and waited for traffic to clear up before proceeding across. There was a black car on that little cross section with me, waiting to go across the eastbound lanes, and a third vehicle (big truck) was out in the left-hand-turn-only lane waiting for the car to go across. The truck blocked my view a little, I guess, though I didn't notice it at the time. I looked down the westbound lanes, didn't see anybody coming, and started pulling out to go across. As soon as I did, that little two-seater came out from behind the truck and hit me. I never saw him coming. Fortunately, nobody was seriously hurt 😀

?

Used cars are actually better than new ones most of the time because they're a heck of a lot cheaper and they already have scratches. If a car's perfect you don't want to mess it up. Used cars are often already scratched a little or worn some... You can go off-roadin' in those!

Heavy duty 4x4's last forever if you take care of them and the motors and parts are very cheap.

How cheap do you want to go?
You can pick up an 87-94 2.2l/2.5l chrysler/dodge/plymouth of some kind with around 100k miles for $1k + or -. They aren't honda reliable but they are fairly good and parts are dirt cheap when something does break and they are super easy to work on. They are my favorite beater.

i kinda want to get another car right now for a daily driver

i'm putting way too many miles on this car

was thinking about getting a 4th gen lude (<4k) or a 240sx (dunno how much)

Ah, this is the kind of stuff I was looking for. Like I said, my Blazer might be repairable, so I might not need the beater for long. No need (or want for that matter) to blow a lot of money in that case.

Was it his fault? Get his insurance to cough up some rental.
Your fault? Hit up your insurance.

Unfortunately, I don't think my insurance will cover it; all I carried was liability. The bum that hit me didn't even have insurance; hell, his plates were fake (photocopies)! Also, according to the cops at least, it was my fault.

That's silly.

Anyway, I have a 95 Toyota Camry and it's been very good to me. 🙂

Honda or toyota... volkswagens are pretty good too, but really expensive to repair depending on what model you get.

In all seriousness, a well maintained early 90's ford escort or a mazda protege will be a fairly reliable gas sipper that's dirt cheap to repair in the event it needs to be. You could easily nab one of them for $1000-$2000.

a 1995 or newer ford crown vic or mercury grand mar. just watch out for bad transmissions, well actually bad lockup torque converters
