I have about 13k to spend on a new used car. I was looking at a 1994 BMW 318i but it is hard to find one around here (Philly). Anyone have any good ideas?

Thanks

318? Ugh... might sound stuck up but me and most of my buddies thought of them a "penismobiles" where people got them just for the sake of getting a BMW. You can get a better car with better equipment and performance than a 318.

Give me some suggestions for other cars then, I'm open minded. I have around 13k to spend. (I can get a bit more if needed.)

for 13? could get you a sweet 97 Pontiac Trans Am and have all the girlies droppin' their panties while you run 12's in the quarter mile with a few cheap bolt ons.. woohoo!

The decent '97 Trans Ams I've seen go for around ~19k, but I've never seen them for as low as edmund.com lists (15k dealer). But then again I have really been looking for one. Plus insurance for one of those would probably be an arm and a leg. I'm going for luxury over performance, but I'd like a mix of both.

good man, at least you looked for one. and insurance would be a b!tch, thats why I ended up getting a V6 Firebird instead of a V8 Firebird Trans Am.. :(

I'll second the vote for the 97 Trans-Am cause thats exactly what I have :)

But if you want a beemer, AT LEAST get a 325! Used 94's can be in that price range. I test drove the 318ti when it first came out, just to see what a $20k beemer was like...and it was dissapointing, kinda like a $20k Escort or something. So stay away from the 1.8 and get a 2.5!

Insurance is a bit over $2k/yr. And I just turned 25 so it went down from just under $3k.

A used Maxima ('90-94) or a Prelude?

Both are nice and fast. The Maxima may get you lower insurance rate than the Prelude.

I'll get used mitsu eclipse turbo,

or vw VR6 ...

Just my idea... 94 BMW 318 is not worth it.

Whatever you get, make sure it's reliable unless you don't mind paying $13k for a lemon POS on wheels.

Consumer Reports is of course the best resource when it comes to used cars.

How about a slightly newer Acura or Volkswagon?

Acura - Integra
Volkswagon - GTi or Jetta

All fun cars to drive and cheaper to maintain in the long run. Sure BMW's are sexy but wait until you see your first repair bill. The part for them are very expensive.

The Acura is a great buy. When I sold my 94 Integra last year it was as good as new and I certaily did not baby it.

98 or 99 Ford Contour SVT
Cheap insurance, easy and cheap to maintain, fast, handles like it's on rails, and has decent passenger space as well.

contour SVT's for sale

ROTFLMAO! At least they give you a reserve fuel tank as standard equipment, since there is no fuel gauge!

I can't believe how many things this car DOESN'T have. No oil to change either- you add it to the gas like you do with your weedwacker... which prob has just as much HP too

1970 Ford LTD....

Save the rest for investing in the stock market, and buy a Ferrarri.
