If you go to APC.com you can figure out which UPS would be best for you and how long it will power your system by putting in the appropriate amount of Watts.

For the kind of power you're draining, I'd say a higher end Back-UPS Pro, with a rating of at least 1000VA(they jump from 650VA to 1000, with 650 being too small).

I run a 500va trippe lite (IBM branded) on a 431w p/s, 21" monitor, 3 hard drives, xp 1800@1725mhz, dvd, cdrw, etc and a boatload of fans (2 hd coolers, a 120, a 92, 3 80s, slot cooler, etc) and a cable modem. never ran it for more than 4 or 5 minutes before i shut it down, i imagine im pushing it. if you just need it to shut down your pc it should be plenty. if you want to continue playing UT you need something bigger :)

if it does run out of juice it will just shut down, as if the power went out.

Bruno, overloading a UPS isn't really a good idea. I've seen one smoke that was slightly overloaded, and while it's possible it was the fault of a bad UPS in the first place, I'm willing to bet it was the overload. It could work, but for the cost of a UPS that would have a remote chance of being powerful enough, it's not nessisarily a wise risk.
