If you have a Sams Club membership, go check out what they have. I got an APC 1250VA (740 watts) UPS for $129. Really nice looking tower with a screen, and the software gives a good breakdown on your power usage.
That unit will run my 2600k/8GB/580 + 27" monitor + cable modem for about 21 minutes when the power goes out. I get many short power cuts here, whenever the wind blows it seems I can count on a few 5 second outages.
