What upgrade for X1950 Pro?

I have an HIS X1950 Pro graphics card. For the current generation of graphics cards, what would be comparable in terms of performance?

I am looking for the same or better performance at lower power consumption for a new system that I am building. 1680x1050, casual gaming.

For example, would the AMD 4850 cards be similar, and the 4870 then offer a nice boost? Or, because the X1950 is a couple of generations old, are the lower end 4000-series cards at about the same level?

A 4770 is a good choice for 16x10 if you want lower power consumption. The 4850 is a bit faster but more of a power hog.

Supplies of 4770s are low right now, can you wait a few weeks to buy?

If you have to buy today, newegg.com has 4850s for as low as $90 after $20 rebate.

A 4850 is much, MUCH faster than an X1950 Pro. I had a 512MB X1900XT (which is already a good deal faster than a 1950 Pro), and my 4850 now is at least twice as fast. Even a 4650 is faster than a 1950 Pro.

An HD 4670 would be considerably faster and very low on power consumption (and cheap - $50-70). Gets all its power from the PCI-E slot. An HD 4770 would be a great choice if you can find one. They're out of stock everywhere it seems (and have been for weeks). I would probably go for one of the $90-$100 (after rebate) HD 4850s out there. Great deal for the performance.

The 4670 has the lowest power consumption of all the suggested cards, since you asked. I used to have a x1950 Pro.
As a reference, I had to play GRID at 1024x600 with medium details, and still got a miserable performance.
With the 4670 I can play GRID at 1680x1050, 4xAA and everything on max with smooth FPS.
And the 4670 is the slowest of the bunch! So you can't really go wrong with any of these.
