What unnecessary spending should the gov cut?

In a twisted way i could see this working. Our taxes would be so much less that everyone should have more money and so on.

Legalize Marajuana at least. That would cut down the number of inmates dramatically. (I would vouch for legalization of all drugs, but that's another story).

Stop fighting this war
cut the miltiary's budget (not dramatically)
don't cut taxes anymore
Slim down government staff
Cut funding to Total Information Awareness completely
Call troops home from South Korea (they don't want us there, so why the hell should we stay?)

get bush to hire a pro for his budget! a 5.6 trillion dollar surplus was predicted 2 years ago, yet now we are supposed to have a 1 trillion dollar defict through 2008. On top of that, Bush is cutting programs that definately shouldn't be cut. Bush wants to eliminate Department of Housing and Urban Development's Hope VI program, which over a decade has demolished 115,000 decrepit public houseing projects and bult 60,000 new ones. It includes mandates to the states to boost the minimum rent collected from improvrished tenants in the federally supported public housing they administer. The specific ceiling is now "not more than $50" a month. The Bush budget will change that to "$50 or more" - is this a responsible way to help people?

It totally ignores the soaring worker layoffs and the unemployment statistics. There is a new study by Northeastern University that estimates there are 5.5 million people ages 16 to 24 that neither are in school or have jobs.

Ugh... the list goes on. Nany Pelosi put it well, saying that Bush cuts funding for homeland defense, but finds "enough money in the wartime budget to create a huge tax cut that benefits the wealthiest in our country." In fact, the White House Coucnil of Economic Advisors sent Bush's plan to Congress in February. He is actually proposing a federal sales tax (and no surprise that, of course, it places a higher burden on the middle class than the upper class).

Put simply, unemployment is up 4 percent since Bush took office and stocks have lost 4.8 trillion dollars in value. Looking at the facts, Bush is too expensive / incompetant for our government and should be cut as "unnecessary spending".

HUD...that's another one. I'd axe that one too.

As far as Bush = bad economy...that's nonsense. The President doesn't have any more control over how the economy does than you. The economy will go back up and then it will eventually go back down.

I think you can see where I'm going with this...

you wish

do you realize that medicare medicaid is about 25% of income for most doctors practices. 25%. if we cut it w/o any alternatives you are going to see most doctors practices go out of busines.

i'm not saying we should not eliminate it for that reason, i'm just saying that it's not as simple as saying let's cut it.

if your gonna bring back troops from korea (which i'm for btw) you should bring our forces in Europe back also.

the free money part, where they give free money to people for no good reason
also, the part where they give free money to other countries that don't support us, that is, any country that is clearly anti-American needs to be cutoff
