"What U Hear" Audio Recording...

Someone asked me this recently and I honestly had no clue. IF I'm playing a CD on my computer, and at the same time having an audio recording program like Sound Forge, record in the background, using the "What U Hear" option on my soundcard, is this process digital or analog?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, I had no clue where to ask this.

IIRC it's still a digital waveform, but it has been processed by the DSP and decoded to PCM. There'd be no point in converting it to analog first, you'd just lose quality. Only analog processes on your sound card are Line In, AUX, etc. S/PDIF in is digital though transmitted by analog means.

Thx, I had a hunch it was a digital process, but was not exactly sure.
