My dwarf paladin is a skinner/miner. About ten minutes after running to IronForge to get my skinning ability I hit the max 75 skill in skinning. So many dead bodies lying around from everyone trying to complete the early quests. Of course I am only level 9 right now so I can't move to Journeyman skinner until I level again. I haven't had the chance to mine much yet. Need to level away from Dun Moragh, too much competition for the mines right now.

I also have fishing and cooking. Fishing is the best way to up cooking level, as well as to just burn some time and relax (except when the priest gets in over his head with a couple of wolves and decides to drag them over to you while you are trying to fish). I spent about 25 minutes getting my fishing to 50 and had enough fish to cook to level up cooking as well. There are a lot of cooking recipes that will give you buffs after you eat.

Level 8 Undead Priest Skinner/Miner. The mining hasn't come in handy much yet, but the skinning is an easy way to get cash.

I'm on Blackhand by the way, name's Dead.

Professions

There are two different approaches to the professional trade skills. You can choose two that will benefit your character by creating items you will be using for less money or quicker availability or you can choose strictly for profit.

I have tried both methods during the close Beta test and I found making equipment or potions for myself was better than gathering or crafting for profit and then buying any needed items off the auction house or other players. The only other difference would be if you belong to a good guild where higher-level players create items for you for little to nothing in cost.

I played warrior, shaman, mage, rouge, hunter, warlock, & paladin. I would choose the following trade skills for these classes.

Warrior & Paladin ? Herbalism & alchemy for making your own potions or Mining & Blacksmithing for making your own weapons and armor plus weapon buff stones.

Shaman & Rouge - Leathercrafting & Skinning for creating your own armor and armor patches. You can also selling your green & higher-level armor at the auction house.

Mage & Warlock ? Tailoring & enchanting for creating your own armor, bags, and enchanting items. High level enchanting and bags can be quite profitable.

fishing is not a profession, it doesnt count towards the 2 profession quota.

Im doing a shaman with skinning/leathworking.

Never got a chance to play beta, but it has been a good combo for me so far.

I'm a Night Elf Rogue. All I have right now is first aid. I did herbalism/alchemy in open beta, but it's too time consuming and I ended up buying all my potions from the auction house. I'm going to try fishing/cooking next. The foods seem to provide pretty nice buffs. If that doesn't work out I'll just do skinning/leatherworking (probably the easiest profession to build up).
