What type of RAID should I do? raid 0,1,2,3,4,5?

Can anyone explain to me how to set it up? and how much would it cost?

PERC...Power Edge Raid Controller.

They're all over ebay.

Get some battery backed up cache, 64MB is a good start.

If you have two hard disks, you're limited to either RAID 0 which is striping with zero redundancy or RAID 1 which is mirroring which provides fault tolerance. If speed and space are paramount, RAID 0 is the answer. Just be sure to back up important things to another network share!

What is battery backed up cache for? isn't the card run by the system power?
I'm new to this thing...

Can someone explain to me?

If I buy PERC...Power Edge Raid Controller, can it work on other motherboards too? or only poweredge???

thanks

The battery module is to protect the data in the cache in case of un-intentional power outage or a system crash. The drivers will flush the cache before the system is restarted. If the cache is dirty and not flushed, the battery will retain the data for up to 72 hours with no system power at all!

PERC controllers usually can be used in other systems, sometimes a firmware/BIOS flash is needed.
