what type of programming is more useful?

I'm a chemist and have a good job but was wondering what type of programming or IS related programs would be more useful (especially in the biotech/pharmaceutical field in departments like development/process transfer/technical support/manufacturing). Since taking courses at UCSD will be covered at my work, which of the certificates would best suit a beginner programmer? When it comes to computer hardware and working with programs, I pick up everything nearly quickly. Programming is totally new to me. I only know writing html from scratch and understand javascript so that I know how to modify them but not create them.

C/C++ Programming
Database Administration (using Oracle)
Java Programming
Unix System Administration
Unix Systems Security
Visual Basic .Net Programming
 
I see a lot of database programming positions out there. There actually is demand for COBOL...when the remaining COBOL programmers finally die...there's no one to replace them.
