What type of photo paper for Canon i850?

I am about to pickup a Canon i850 printer. However, Tomshardware and other sources say that photos won't last long unless protected under glass when using Canon's photo paper. If that is the case, then what photo paper should I use for photo preservation purposes?

Thanks!

It's not like THW has tested that. Actually, Canon claims very long color retention by the established standards exactly if you use their own ink and paper.

Of course Canon paper is the best but epson paper is very good. Avoid Kodak.

As for fading, consider you can always reprint the pic anytime you want.

Newsflash ... German magazine c't just did a VERY exhaustive test of photo papers. With a Canon i950 printer, Canon's own Photo Paper Pro turned out to be best in color accuracy and retention as well as general print quality. Budget recommendation was "Pearl Premium Classic 240g". Epson's paper did quite well with the Canon printer too.

>avoid Kodak

That test seconds that. Color accuracy was worst with Kodak paper.

I think 100 sheets is like $20 at Costco.

I use the 4x6 Canon paper and love it. Great color, no streaking, and the paper feels thicker than other brands. I have also tried Epson and Kodak paperm but neither look as good as the Canon paper. I hope this helps!

i have an s820, and canon paper always works out best. i did not like any of the epsons (altho the matte was ok). Red River Paper sells some REALLY nice papers... unfortunately, i found they did not work too well w/ my canon.

But, as an alternative, office depot glossy photo paper worked very well for the price. It looked nice, but side by side w/ canon paper, they tend to look a little on the green/blue side.

You can probably browse the www.dpreview.com forums to see what other i850 users are using for paper.
