What type of milk do you drink? And why?

Taste, health reasons, price, tradition, etc.

I voted whole by the way. Why would I want to drink milk with the fat replaced with crap to make it look like milk?

Vanilla Rice Milk, due to a milk allergy. Plus, unopened it doesn't need to be refrigerated, so I can buy a ton at once and not have to go shopping for it much thanks to the one-year shelf life

That's debatable. The stuff they add back into the milk after removing the fat isn't suppose to be good for you.

I used to drink whole milk but switched to 2% because I like how it doesn't taste as rich.

Having a glass right now, actually!

fat-free or lowfat milk can cause prostate cancer according to some studies. whole milk has a lot of saturated fat however.

I switch weekly between whole, 1% and nonfat as a compromise

2%

I switched when my parents went on vacation because it was nearly $2 cheaper here in Canada. I got used to 2% now and can drink either.

Whole definitely.

2% and 1% fail completely. Skim is OK because it is like water with white coloring. I don't like 2% or 1% at all because you get the expectation that it is going to taste good, and it fails miserably. At least with Skim, just by the looks of it you can tell its gonna taste like water, and for the most part it succeeds in doing that.

I don't care about price, but certainly, i grew up drinking whole milk. It tastes good, and there are worse things for me (soda) that I drink for whole milk to ever enter the picture as someting that might be unhealthy.

Whole milk, the only real milk.
2% is acceptable for cooking because you dont notice the taste.

What exactly are they adding back into skim milk? It's just whole milk, with milk fat skimmed off the top. Then perhaps some vitamins added.

Silk vanilla flavored Soy.

I hate the taste of milk, and I'm lactose intolerant.

I have a high functioning metabolism, and I don't drink milk by itself. I only get whole milk, if I do have milk, and it's usually in coffee drinks.

Milk without fat doesn't look milky, they have to add things back into it.

About milk: I'll bet most of you voted for reduced or non-fat. But if you'll turn to page 153 of "In Defense of Food," you'll read that processors don't make low-fat dairy products just by removing the fat. To restore the texture --- to make the drink "milky" --- they must add stuff, usually powdered milk. Did you know powdered milk contains oxidized cholesterol, said to be worse for your arteries than plain old cholesterol? And that removing the fat makes it harder for your body to absorb the fat-soluble vitamins that make milk a valuable food in the first place?

I think In Defense of Food is a really good book. It's main motto is about eating natural food that hasn't been processed. Also, it doesn't necessarily support organic food and all that hippy stuff.
