I'm looking into getting a new motherboard/memory combo for my QX9650. Seeing as how DDR3 is freakin super expensive, I was going to go the DDR2 route. But I found some DDR3 1600 (9-9-9-24) on newegg for about $209 AR... which isn't TOOOO bad.

So the question now is, if I don't mind spending an extra $100 on DDR3, would the DDR3 (9-9-9-24) be better (performance-wise) than some good DDR2 1066 (5-5-5-15)?

These are the two modules:

The prices of DDR3 can't justify the performance yet to me. Unless you overclock, the ram will run at half the FSB of the cpu. 1333 / 2 = 666.5Mhz.

It's not really going to matter. It's definitely not going to be an improvement worth $100.
