List your Home theater systems!

Heres mine:

32inch Sony (Want to get Sony Wega 36 inch! but $1700 :( )
Sony STR-DE545 DD/DTS Receiver (100Wx5)
Bose Acousitmass 10 speaker system
KLH 10 inch sub 120W
Philips DVD player (dont remember model)
Pioneer LD player+ Sega Genesis game console in one! (dont remember model)
2x Panasonic Hi-Fi VCRs
Panasonic VCD 5 disc changer
Teac Duel Tape deck

Pioneer and Philips hooked up with S video and Optical cables

I have a question, I have two subs and I placed them about 2 feet away from each other on the right corner. Is that ok? Or should I put one on each side? Back and front? All comments welcomed!

If possible, one sub on each side (of the center) would probably be the best solution.

And I'm just beginning to build my home setup. First up is the receiver; probably going to go with a Sony STR-DB945. I don't care what anybody says about Sony receivers, the DB (Bridge) line is sweet.

lol, I hear you pmark! Bose suck! They have no bass at all. But what do you expect from a passive sub? It has nice highs though....I go a great deal on the bose ($400). I couldn't resist!

stop it he is family.

I do agree the tweeters dont have the low end, but that is what they are made for, the sub componsates for it.

HOT-

Subs are not (very) directional so good placement is not near each other. Think one front, one back works best. Make sure they are phased correctly or they will cancel each other out. Need more bass, put in corners but beware the "car-boom box effect" of muddy bass. Louder is not better. Bose does strange things to get their sounds so the manual is probably the best for advice.Dont know your level of knowledge so excuse me if I am talking down to you.

My system is rather modest now as I moved and sold off some exotic equip. but I have:

36" Toshiba PIP, Want a Sony also, cant beat em.
Polk Audio RT-7 speakers (4)
Polk Center Channel rs-275
Technics 650 Receiver (4x100) soon to be replaced
Eosone 912 sub
Technics 5 disk cd SLP-847
Sony Sattelite Dish
2 Mitsubishi VCRs
Technics Direct Drive turntable sl-1300 W/ audiotechnica at-7a cartridge w/ Shibata stylus
DVD-ROM if I can deceide on which I like best

You asked :D

BIGODICK-

Sony is usually great for video, poor for sound but I have not seen the series you speak of. If you like it, then it is for you.

Hot-

Just realized you have 1 active and one passive sub. Set up the bose so they sound best without the KLH and then experiment. Think the passive would be best in back if it can be wired which i doubt so go with out KLH and then use the ease of wiring the klh to experiment.

Heh, my level of knowledge about home theater is pretty low. I just started a few months ago.

My Bose sub is on the right front corner, right against the wall. I dont have the freedom to move my 10in sub to the left corner cause my wires suck. WIth regular RCA wires, theres a really annoying "buzzz" with the sub isn't receiving a signal from the receiver. I need to get better insolated cables which cost mucho $$!!! Can anyone recommend quality RCA cables at a reasonable price? I need at least 16-20 feet of cable.

I was thinking of placing my 10in sub on the rear left corner. Is that a good place to put it? Thanks

Also could I damage my receiver if I set the bass to MAX? Will I shorten the life of it? Or should I just set the bass back to normal and pump up the volume on my 10 in sub?

Try the left rear and see. A continuous hum might not be the cables to the Sub. Try phasing switch, if present, and reversing power plug. Usually a grounding problem on one component so try reversing power plugs on each non polarized plug one at a time also. Takes time.

Volume on sub would be better. More bass equals more power demand on your amp and maybe shorter life.

BTW, THe bose sub is aiming away from the corner while the 10in sub is aiming at the wall, will they cancel each other out with this setup?

Ahhh, sorry for all the questions but I am pretty new to home entertainment stuff. Can anyone recommend sites with helpful info on setting up a home theater? Thanks

Here's mine

Toshiba 32" PiP ($420)
Toshiba 3109 DVD ($100 cash plus an old sub)
Toshiba HiFi VCR ($180, it's 4 years old :) )

Yamaha RX-790 Dolby Digital 85x5 ($680)

Wharfedale Sapphire 87's for the fronts ($95 a piece)
Wharfedale Sapphire 83's for the rears ($48 a piece)

For now I have:

Toshiba 6109C (Toshiba DVD/Onkyo receiver combo)
Mitsubishi VCR
Pioneer CLD-D504 LD player

Hooked up to my 21" Mitsubishi DiamondPro and Matrox Marvel G400...

One of these days when I move I'll probably end up getting a Sony TV and some speakers to go with it... :)

Then I'll start working on what I *REALLY* want... a house that is completely wired for sound, video, and data, but where everything is totally invisible until it's needed... :D

BTW, while I'm here, any of you HT buffs know where to get an RF demodulator reasonably cheap? Already tried *bay. My LDs are waiting for some DD action... :)
