What type of HSF do I need to get for:
TYAN "Tomcat i815T" i815ep Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket 370 CPU -RETAIL
Intel Pentium III 1GHz 133MHz FSB, 256K Cache - OEM
I can't find a Boxed P3 anywhere
The Compatable list at NewEgg is confusing. They list 4 catagories
Socket 370 / 478
Socket 370 / A
Socket 370 / A / 478 / 423
Socket 370 / 478 / A / 754 / 939 / 940
Is there a difference between Socket A/370 and just 370?
Some say Compatibility:Intel Coppermine 1.13GHz. The above chip has a coppermine core but it's only 1GHz.
What would you recommend for the above non-overclocked system.
Thanks

I believe socket 370 and A could use the same heatsink. Cause I think they have the same clip config...correct me if Im wrong. I would recommend getting the one @ socket 370 / A just to be safe. I was just at frys electronics 2 weekends ago and I got a coolermaster heatsink for my PIII like for 7.99.

I would probably get one that says coppermine 1.13ghz...but I thought the 1.13ghz PIII were tualatins....huh...

Other than a banshee wail, broken socket clip, and subpar thermal performance, yeah, nothing. :p

OP - describe your case. If you've got the airflow and space, I say get an older Zalman CNPS3000 "flower" sink and run that thing fanless. :D

The best heatsink for Socket370 P3s I've ever used is the Alpha PEP66 with a quiet 2500rpm 60mm fan. On my old overclocked P3-700E (running at 933mHz), the CPU die temp never rises above 40C (my case temps stay at 29C when ambient is at 25C).

The Alpha PEP66 is a rare item these days though, but you can still get one here.

HTH.
