I dont think any stores in the US would sell them.

Uninformed Person: I bought some chokecherries from your store and my daughter ate some but didnt spit out the pits. I'm going to sue your ass now.

CAUTION: Chokecherries and other plants of the Genus: Prunus, contain poisonous hydrocyanic acid in their seeds (pits), leaves and bark. Only the flesh of these fruits should be eaten.

Nope, those would be bing cherries. Chokecherries are ripe end of Augustish. I don't know where you could buy them - I've never seen them in stores.

They are about 1/2 to 1/3 the size of normal cherries, and taste terrible alone, but they are quite nice in pies & jelly. However I would much prefer blueberries, blackberries, loganberries, or wild currants over chokecherries.

We used to have them growing in our yard...I never knew they were edible, though.

Ever have Huckleberries?? Freshly picked are the best. When we used to pick them we had to make sure to have the dogs with us. They are also a favorite of black bears and grizzly bears.

Yes they are very tasty. The only time I saw black bears around berries are wild currants, wild blueberries, wild salmonberries & blackberries.

<-- Planted trees for 5 summers on the west coast and had enjoyed many varieties of berries. And, salalberries are the best dried berries that I every had.
