What type of firewall would you recommend?

I just got my cable modem installed....
Wow what a difference!
I just wanted to know which program I should use as a firewall?
Or should I get sometype of hardware firewall?

Thanks

If you don't mind coughing up the cash, then the general opinion is that a hardware firewall is best. Software-wise, a lot of people use ZoneAlarm.

My personal favorite software firewall is Sygate's Personal Firewall. But I'd like ryukumu, I'd go hardware if you can afford it. A decent hardware firewall/router will run you less than $80 these days, and as an added bonus it'll act as a high-speed switch for your LAN. 3Com and SMC are two good brands in the home firewall router department.

Use both. Use a hardware firewall for simple things, and a software firewall for some of the more complex things. I like zone alarm on my parents computer (because its for people that dont know as much) and Tiny personal firewall on a Windows machine if I had to run one.

Thanks for the input folks...
I'll try zonealarm for now. In themean time I will also look for a hardware firewall.
Anyone in Canada know where I can get one cheap.
