with the p150, i'm getting a blue yate loon (undervolted eventually) either an xp90 or 700 or 7000 and 2 real silent case fans or l1a's....help me choose! i'll get a fan controller in the end to make the computer as silent as possible. with an overclocked 3200, will a 7000 at 5v, a real silent case fan 120 at 12v and 2x 92mm real silent case fans at 12v be silent?

With the P150 I would use one 120mm Nexus as exhaust, 1 Nexus 92mm atop the xp90, and 1 92mm Nexus for an intake. imo you do not need two intakes unless you are doing scsi's or 3 raptors. During idle you can run the fans at 7 or 5V...whatever pleases your ears more...under load, toss em back up to full tilt. I use Speedfan but I see you are going controller. The blue (I say clear) Yates are not as quiet as the orange and needs to be softmounted to achieve smoother acoustics. Since you are oc'ing I recommend you use a throttling software...C&Q or better yet, RMClock. It keeps overall temps much lower, therefore when you game/encode/fold/ whatever, you start at lower case/sys/ambient temps and it just plain runs cooler.
*EDIT...srry...meant to tap on your topic and I missed it w/ my reply kinda...BB fans=can be quiet, typically noisier at same rpm than sleeve, last a long time, work well around heat (cpuHSF)...sleeve bearing=most often quieter than BB fans, smoother fan ramping, shorter life expec than BB (in some cases cut in half), and do not fair to well around high temps...hydrowave=hybrid bearing tech thats supposed to get you the best of both worlds (BB & sleeve)...different co's have different names for this.

Yea the CM fans @ 42cfm's (LED) are very nice fans...especially for the price...CM now has a tri-blade fan (black) that looks very interesting...great specs....have not heard one yet so I couldn't tell you about them, but jabtech or svc has them in stock.

i would've gotten the orange yate loon...but they sold out at tekgems. i figured 2 intake fans would be better than 1, especially if i suspend a hard drive. there are 2 problems i see left. don't know which cpu cooler to get (7000, 7700, or x90 + don't know which fan yet) and i still need a fan blowing on the northbridge of the chipset. (asus a8n-e with zalman hs on it) i was thinking of going the cheap way and somehow strap a fan near it. i saw the mod putting a 40mm fan on it, but then i would definitely need to ramp down the rpms which defeats the purpose of the already low cfm fan. suggestions?

oh yea. silentpcreview mentioned that the 92mm or 120mm nexus fan had problems starting up at 7v, but i didn't really plan on undervolting a nexus if i got one.

If those are your choices....(7000, 7700, or x90 + don't know which fan yet) then I would go with the XP90 copper myself.....thaats just me!!

Unless you want top go zalman then I would opt for the Zalman 9500!!!

Good Luck!!

i'm trying to keep it cheap too :). xp 90 aluminum is around the same price as the 7000 and 7700. i just don't know what fan to put on the xp90, or if it will be as silent as the other two.

Your going to have a controller so get atleast 70cfm for the HS.

Look at the Delta Triple blade fans at sidewinder.com. I got a high output 92 for case exhaust. For my XP 90C the medium output 92=71cfm. I bench tested it and it runs real good at 5V and full blast will be there when i need it.
The best bet for quiet and VG cooling is the SI-120.

If you really want quiet, undervolt everything and go passive. spcr has all the details on doing it. We all want it all but few of us get it. Even WC PCs need some internal air flow.

now i'm sorta rethinking the whole idea of a fan controller...if i get fans that are already quiet, i won't really need to spend an extra $30.

You can always control them with software anyways if you use speedfan and plug the fans into the motherboard headers. Free + they speed up and down on their own due to temperature changes however you like.

I have 2 120mm Nexus fans, and I have to warn you they don't move a lot of air. They are also easy to hear until undervolted/modulated, however it doesn't take much before they are silent.

The Nexus fan, from all I have heard, is a Yate Loon fan that has a resistor to limit the speed of the fan to 1100rpm. If you buy faster Yate Loon fans, you can always use speedfan to slow them down to the same level as a Nexus for silence, but have the airflow capability if you ever need it.

As for the heatsink, the 7000 Zalman is quite nice, and is very quiet. If you have room for the 7700 I'm sure it would even be better. I like the Zalman flower design because it cools more than the CPU without a lot of noise.

I've heard great reviews about the XP90 as well, and the SI120 looks quite good too. There is a nice sticky at the top of the page for reviews.

if all your looking for is a real fine temperature on your CPU then the xp90 al would out perform the Zalman series...except for the Zalman 9500....:)

i think i'm gonna go cheap on the fans. when priced, the: xp90+fan,2x 92mm, 1x120mm,northbridge hs/f all adds up to around $70. now i think i'll just get 2x 92mm nexus fans, the 7700alcu, and the zalman northbridge hs+ i need some other fan (not sure what size. 40mm-120mm). that adds up to around 50ish. nothing in this computer will be especially hot so i don't think i'll need huge amounts of airflow.
