One of my friends asked me to put a list together for a top of the line computer for video editing ?

I just wanted to hand him couple from dell outlet for 600 to 700 dollars and have him buy the video card himself ?

Does that sound ok or what suggestions do you guys/gals have ?

Thank You
Mohammed

Well...

How good a friend is he?

I'll only build a system for a friend when cash is involved if they really beg me to and understand that as with any computer system, something could burn out or get fried and I would try to fix anything that could go bad if possible, but won't replace anything out of warranty.

If the person is not computer literate, he might be better off with a cheap compaq or dell with a warranty and tech support and slap in a good vid card or you might find yourself being his tech support bitch and taking the blame for building a crap system when he decides to use the CD rom drive as a coffee cup holder.

What I suggest is have him decide himself if he wants a home built system and help him choose what parts to order then help him build it, but make him do most of the work himself so he at least learns the basics. If something goes wrong, he would be less likely to blame you if he actually builds it.

He is a work friend, I don't have any association with him outside of work.
He justed me find the parts and I think he would be doing it himself. I don't know how much he knows about computers. That is why I was inclined at first to go with dell outlet, buy a cheap machine with a warranty and let him add a video card.
