What type of cardio equipment do you own?

Looking at getting an elliptical or treadmill for the garage. My two oldest (16 & 13) want to shed a few lbs so I told them I'd get them something. Looking at the Nordictrack Elliptical at Sears. Anybody have one?

My cardio equipment is a bicycle (not a stationary one).

Seriously, cycling outside is so much better. You get to go out under the sun, and it's a good cardio exercise.

Just run outside or get a subscription to the gym. With a gym subscription at least when they give up in a month you can cancel instead of letting a $1000 equipment collect dust.

We live in a new subdivision next to a real busy road so there is no place to run (or ride their bikes); hence, the exercise equipment decision.

Whatever you choose to do make sure you stick to it. There are a ton of stories and studies about people wasting money on Gym memberships because they never go. There are also many people that buy tread mills and use them for the first week or two and then just leave it in a corner to collect dust.

You know your kids best. If they are the type to want something new and then not use it a short while after, the same will happen with the treadmill. You'll have to come up with some rules like "whenever you watch tv you have to be on the treadmill". Things like that make people use it!
