What Tool Do You Use to Add Text to a movie clip?

I just wanted to add a black square and write some text on some existing movie clip.

I have Adobe Premiere, but it doesn't seem to do the job.

What's a software that does this? Thanks!
 
I can't believe that Adobe wouldn't have this basic functionality. Pretty much any home movie program will have a function to add text to a clip and set the time for it to be displayed. Grab some demos of software from Pinnacle, Ulead, etc.
