What to wear to the work holiday christmas party

Basically the same thing I wear to work. No jacket though just a regular wool coat over it.

Why don't you ask your coworkers? Or... specify the type of dress usually worn to those parties and be more specific in your OP.

I've been to holiday parties where everyone dressed in their "best" clothing - suits, gowns, etc., and I've also been to holiday parties where everyone dressed down... jeans + sweaters. It depends on the company.
