It's for a call center position.

So far, I think I'm going to go with a basic blue dress shirt and khakis.

Is a tie too much?

A tie might not be enough. Charcoal or navy suits are usual interview attire. I would at least wear the tie.

For a call center position the tie may be plenty. Never interviewed for something like that.

I would wear a tie. just something business casual. Tie would be nice with the khakis and shirt, plus, its always better to be dressed up than dressed down. :)

Break a leg :)

Since color coordination is not one of my greatest strengths, I suppose wearing the tie that came with the shirt in it's little reinforced plastic box is a good match?

That plastic shell was like Fort Knox. Damn near impossible to open. Took me fifteen minutes....

Get a camera. Take pictures. Post them online. Make a poll. Follow the ATOT crowd's opinion or the opposite depending on how you feel about the population here.

Business casual. Employers can be stupid, though. One time, I went to interview with a video game store/on-line store. Store owner kind of bashed me for wearing a suit for an interview  Anyway, didn't get the job, but glad I didn't. One thing he told me is I'd have to deal with a bunch of angry customers. Doing some research after the fact at places like resellerratings explained why; they had some of the lowest ratings for a store I'd ever seen. They were in the bottom 20. They didn't ship stuff in a timely fashion, wouldn't answer e-mails and phone calls, they had rude responses from employees when they could get through, the company didn't update the website for months. So people would order something through the automated system and never get it because it was discontinued. They were charged on their CC first, and as mentioned above, had an impossible time getting through to get the charges reverse. All in all, I felt a lot better about not getting the job after finding all that out :)

IMHO, a suit is over the top for some positions - I typically wear a dress shirt/pants and a tie. It worked for my current job.. :)

Search for my thread on what I wore to my interview.

I got the job, BTW. ;)

I do not own a suit.

The tie is as high end as I get.

Is the tie alone enough? I have no jacket or suity type thing to stick with it.

If the position pays over $10.00 an hour, go with a suit. Between 8 and 10, it's up to you, and anything less is shirt and tie.

shirt and tie is fine. of all the interviews i've done, a handful of candidates come in a suit, while most come in with a shirt and tie. this is a position that pays about 55k. to be honest the committee i'm on just wants you to look neat and presentable.

i work with a few managers that run our call center and they understand that you're not going to be wearing a suit while at work, so just look neat. iron the shirt and pants and comb your hair...go easy on the cologne...be motivated and enthusiastic about the job.

i'd definately go with the tie...it can't hurt...unless its one ugly ass tie.

Then get a suit.

Otherwise a tie with a blazer will get you by.

You're an adult now. Get a suit.

Tie that can match the dress shirt.

No polo shirt
No sneakers.

Even though it may be a call center; you still should dress to impress.

Suits are for wankers! Shun the suit!

Unless it's a fire suit like the one I'm putting on right now...:D

If my current job left me with $200 to go run and get a suit I might not be looking for a new one.

My friend that works there has never seen someone interview in a tie, much less a suit.

I will do the tie.

you guys telling him to wear a suit are crazy. he is going for a job in a call center for god sake, not to become the next CEO of the company.

when i had my interview at IBM for an engineering position, they said don't wear a suit because it would be over dressing.

it really depends on the job and company you interview for, if you are unsure, ask who will be there at the interview, they won't mind.
