What to use to clean a charcoal grill?

NFS4

We've got a basic, old Webber charcoal grill at home that we all use. The guys don't even clean it off, they just keep throwing food on it and the bars looks all black, grimy and nasty. We've got a couple of grill scrubbers that I've tried to use, but it just seems to push the crud around on the bars instead of getting it off.

So what can I use to clean off the filfth? And is it sanitary to use if there's still black grease all over the bars? It just seems so nasty that I can't see how they use it that way. I've just been using those aluminum foil "Grill Buddies" in the mean time.

Fire it up real hot + wire brush.

Definatly the way to start.

Makes cleaning up all that junk much easier.

If you are still not happy with it after that, try the soap + steel wool. Let the grill cool off first though. 😛

Blowtorch. Seriously.
Fire the greasy goo until it's nothing but carbon and most of it flakes off (fairly) easily with a wire brush or a scouring pad.

Get rid of the bare-wire grill, and get yourself a powder-coated wire one (ceramic).

Clean up is MUCH easier...
