What to upgrade?

Well, I usually overhaul something in my system around the end of the year, but I am kind of in a rut this year. My original plan was to go Athlon FX and get into 64 bit. The problem is just to get the new CPU and mobo and registered memory is going to cost upwards of $1,200 which is out of my budget. So I am trying to decide what it is I should upgrade.

If anyone has any suggestions as to what can use some work I'd appreciate it. Thanks much

Pentium 4 2.53Ghz
Gigabyte GA-8SG667 Motherboard
1GB PC 2700 or 3200 (forget which) RAM
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
Soundblaster Audigy
120GB WD1200JB (storage)
120GB WD1200JB (storage)
36GB Fujitsu MAS3667 15,000RPM SCSI drive
Plexwriter 12x10x32 CD burner
DVD ROM

Why not go for an Athlon 64 3000+ 512K version instead of a FX. You would just need a motherboard, the processor and heatsink if you buy oem. Also ram if yours isn't PC-3200.
Will be under 1200 for all around $500-$600 if 1GB ram is included

True but I want good performance, not half ass. If I am going the CPU route, I want to go with an FX. Worst case scenario I wait a couple months on the price to come down, but not sure what I should do.

I'd wait until next year...say...march...not only should the 64 bits from Athlon come down in price, graphics cards that run circles around your 9700 pro should be out by then too.
