There is no high end pc stores where I live. Just for giggles, I posted my rig on craigs list for a high price, just to test interest in the high end market where I live. I got a reply from someone named piqueboss. They asked about boxes, and receipts. They offered 200 more than what I am asking, and offered 250.00 for shipping. Here is a copy of the email I got.

"Thanks for your response, am very new to this site cause i was just
introduce by a new friend of mine at work so i will like you to mail
me your paypal email address and i will like to be paying you $5500 for
item and $250 for the shipping cost VIA USPS EXPRESS MAIL SERVICE
(EMS) cos the item will be shipped internationally and am buying this
item for my friend son as a birth day gift cause her mother did the
same when my daughter did her own too and However i have few questions
on the product you are selling.

1,I would like to know the reason why you are selling it?
2,What is the current condition of the item ?
3,Do you have the original box and the receipt ?."

I am smelling scam, anyone ever heard of this person?

I emailed them back, to find their location. Here is the response I got.

Thanks for your reply,i too which to make this deal cash only and face
to face transaction but am right out of state due to some vital reason
so i will like you to get back to me with your paypal email address or
your full information so i can issue out your money .... okay hope to

It's craigslist, only deal face to face and only accept cash. That pretty much prevents 100% of the scams out there if you're trying to sell stuff.

That`s good advice.......but I recently sold one of my trumpets on craigslist out of state.
They kindly provided me with there address I loooked it up via the internet and then I called the address -- it was a store. I asked the ownbers name.

Then I contacted the people and said I want a US Postal Money order and I will cash it first. Then I will send them the trumpet!

I was told by the local US postal inspector that if somebody sends you a bogus postal money order that the post office will not cash the money order and they will go after the people who sent it to you!!

In fact it was the postal inspector who told me that besdides paypal, postal money orders are very safe.

So I made $1,000 and sent the people the trumpet which was a gift for the owners son.

Anyways...good advice -- always do your homework.....

Do local + cash only. As a personal consumer, liability is high and shipping anything to a random stranger is stupid especially if the potential buyer has other alternatives.

Hell...that looks perfectly legit. Go ahead and give it a go...what's the worst that could happen?

Tell them yes. After you receive the fake check, just send them an email saying "my bank says that the check is fake. What are you trying to pull?"

Scammer is out the cost of postage. If everyone did this, scammers would lose money instead of make money. If only the suckers say "okay", then scammers make a shitload of money.

edit: I see he wants your paypal address. Absolutely not.

Oxymoron.

Well, I'm sure not going to sell my kickass trumpet I bought off some sucker a while back. I told him it was for my son, and he took half off the price (after babbling some random stuff about the middle east peace process). I don't even have a son! LOLOLOL!

I own a company that distinguishes legitimate buyers from scammers. Please send me your social security number, bank routing number, and mother's maiden name and I will find out for you.
