What to study for A+ certification?

I paid for the A+ certification vouchers a year ago and never took them. They will expire July 12 so this Friday is the last day that I will be available to take the tests.

What is the best way to prepare for the tests? I will be going the A+ Essentials and A+ It Technician route on the tests.

Should I head out to a book store and buy a book? If so, what books are worth buying?
Or are there any free alternatives to prepare online?

I really dont want to take the test but I paid for it before I graduated school, so why waste my $150?

Your link is broken.

OP: Revise IRQs and memory addresses. Reciting them off into a table = free marks for memorising numbers.

They don't ask you those kinds of questions anymore. The A+ exams were revised last year for updated technology. I just took the tests last week. Did the IT Technician route as well. They are very different now.

They mostly focus on troubleshooting problems. An example would be, "Such and such user's computer doesn't POST and beeps. What could be the problem?" Another popular topic are built-in Windows' tools to troubleshoot problems.

I didn't have any problems with either test, but I attribute that to my 3+ years of experience in the field. If you have more than 6 months experience, I don't think you will have any problems with the tests.

Ha, I was in the same situation earlier this year. I had the vouchers, but procastinated to take the tests until the last week. I didn't put in any study time, and was able to pass the hardware/software tests with no problems. However, it never hurts to take a look over them. Good luck!

I did the A+ Hardware Essentials last September, when did they change it? It's about time, though, it was rather out of date "some say that in the future, speeds of up to 90 or even 100MHz will be attainable on desktop processors". Well, maybe not that bad :p.
