Planning on going to the Outerbanks(North Carolina) and spend Friday and Saturday with the wife and need suggestions on what to do.

Going to eat :D some nice seafood and probably go see Wright Brothers, the lighthouses, and the sand dunes. Anything else that you could recommend?

Try to fly a kite in the sand dunes. Mine broke into pieces in the air because the wind was so strong.

I'd like to research all the ships that sank off that part of the coast. Ppl refer to it as the graveyard of the sea.

"Graveyard of the Atlantic"

Its amazing the number of ships that sank in those waters. Plus they had Blackbeard who patrolled those waters as well.

There is a graveyard of the Atlantic in Ocracoke, but it's not going to be open when we are down there. Thanks for the input so far

I would suggest going to Nag's Head and checking the Nag's Head Hammock shop...great place for hand-made chairs and hammocks...(xmas presents)

Also, be sure to go to the Wright Brother's Memorial and Ocracoke Island. You can even camp out on the beach in the summer...wouldn't do it this late in the year though. It's a cool trip...I think it's about a 2 hour ferry boat ride out there....

Where are you staying? I usually spend about 2-3weeks up in Corolla each summer.

I was supposed to go diving off hatteras last summer, but the boat broke down and i never got down there. With all the wrecks, it would be a nice place to do a bit of diving if you're into that sort of thing

I actually live in NC, and its quicker to get to the beach in South Carolina, than to get to the outer banks for me. I live probably as north as you can get in NC.

But anyway, see if the Lost Colony play is going to be on while your there. Its a pretty fun play to watch. And the sand dunes rock too.

Go down to Oregon Inlet Marina when all of the Off-shore charter boats come back in the evening and throw their catches out onto the docks for the crowds to see. You'll see lots of big (~60 - 100 lb.) Dolphin(the fish, not the mammal), Mako and Hammerhead Sharks, Tuna(bluefin & yellowfin) and Wahoo. Usually the Sailfish and Marlin are tagged and released. Sometimes someone will bring back a big (1000 lb.) Blue Marlin if they want a trophy, but that is pretty rare. Just call down there and they will let you know when the boats arrive.
